Making Science Clubs Safe
Our facility is 4200 square feet. The club room we will be using is nearly 400 square feet and we will be limiting these clubs to ministry approved maximum. Our office area is separate and isolated from the club room so there will be little to no interaction between campers and the two or three people working in the office during the day. The room will remain quarantined 24 hours a day throughout the week. There is a private washroom that will only be used by the campers. There are two access points to outside which will remain open for fresh air, weather permitting.
Masks will be made available for the children if you would like. As will hand sanitizer. There will be supervised hand washing several times a day including immediately upon arrival. All equipment brought into the camp room will be fully disinfected before and after every use. Several times each day, we will be sanitizing all surfaces that the children will be touching, as well as taking other precautions such as utilizing single use items where possible. Distancing will be in full effect as best we can manage. The Mad Scientist will be wearing a mask at all times.
We are asking for parents to do a self-screening for the presence of symptoms (fever of 100.4 °F or greater, cough, shortness of breath, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, muscle aches, nausea, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, vomiting, etc.) during the camp and during the two weeks prior. There will be one dedicated staff member for your child's group. The staff member may be relieved by another staff member for short breaks during the day. We will be having parents drop off outside the club room to minimize the amount of people in the club room and to follow childcare licensing procedures.
We have the ability at our facility to run a SECOND club. If there were to be two clubs, the two groups would never interact or share equipment in any way. The two club rooms are on different floors, have separate washrooms and are completely isolated from one another. They even have different HVAC systems and can each be accessed from different outside entries. Though we may use just one entrance and have one or two "guides" bring one child at a time into the building, to their designated camp area, using social distancing.
We are not opening the second clubs today. If you see that a club you want to register for is full, we strongly suggest you put yourself on the wait list. We only need 3 names on the wait list to split the group into two clubs. We will be monitoring the lists in real time. If the list populates sufficiently, we will open the second club and notify you immediately, in order of who wait listed first.
Thank you all for your previous support of Mad Science and during this difficult period. We are a small organization trying our best to navigate these challenging times and continually working to find ways to keep children active, engaged and learning without knowing they are learning!
Please note: We will be closely monitoring updated safety protocols as they are announced and will adjust practices accordingly.
